Belly fat is by far the worst kind of fat. It’s been linked to high triglycerides and blood pressure, low levels of “good” HDL cholesterol, and glucose intolerance — all symptoms of a dangerous condition called metabolic syndrome. 

Belly fat also makes your body resistant to the effects of insulin, which controls your blood sugar levels. It cranks up inflammation throughout your body, a culprit behind heart disease. And it makes you more likely to die from diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease.  In fact, it makes you more likely to die, period.
