Health Tip of the Week
Eggs and diabetes — a dangerous combination.
Did you know ... you can eat an egg every day and not increase your risk of stroke or heart attack — unless you have diabetes.
In the famous Physician’s Health Study, people with diabetes saw their risk of dying rise with eating just one egg a week! Eating seven or more eggs a week doubled their mortality rate. Plus, eggs seemed to increase their risk of heart attack and stroke.
The same wasn’t true for people without diabetes.
They had to eat at least seven eggs a week before their mortality risk went up, and even then it only rose 22 percent.
Experts aren’t sure what accounts for this difference, but, in the meantime, eat eggs sparingly if you suffer from diabetes.
But don’t despair ... there are plenty of tasty options for folks with diabetes, like the fish on page 186 of FC&A’s Anti-Aging Super Foods for Seniors that can protect you from diabetic complications like nerve damage, vision loss, and kidney disease!
